The CrossFit Open is an annual event that marks the start of the CrossFit season. It is the first stage of the CrossFit Games season, in which athletes from around the world compete in various physical challenges and workouts to see who is the fittest. The Crossfit Open is open to all athletes, regardless of their skill level or experience, and is often used as a way to qualify for the next stage of the CrossFit Games, the Regionals.
How Does The CrossFit Open Work?
The Crossfit Open takes place over the course of three weeks. Each week will have a new workout for the participating athletes to complete. The workouts are released on a Thursday evening and athletes have until the following Monday to complete them and submit their scores.
The workouts are designed to test a wide range of physical skills, including strength, endurance, and speed. The Open is known for being a fun and challenging event that brings the CrossFit community together.
What’s all the Fuss About?
One of the things that makes the Open so special is the sense of community it creates. Athletes from all walks of life come together to support and encourage each other as they tackle the tough workouts.The Open is also a great opportunity for athletes to see how they stack up against the rest of the world.
While it’s not uncommon for elite athletes to compete in the Open, it’s also a chance for everyday people to see how they measure up. This is especially true for those who may not normally consider themselves “athletes,” as the Open serves as a reminder that anyone can improve their fitness and push themselves to new limits.
The Flow of the Crossfit Season
Everyone’s competition season will start with the worldwide Open. From there, the competition season for the individuals, teams, and age-group athletes will follow the same format, progressing through Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and finally, for a select few, the CrossFit Games.Athletes will compete in regions based on their country of citizenship. The Crossfit Open will run from the 16th of February- 16th of March 2023. After that, the quarter finals will be from the 16th of March – the 2nd of April 2023. Semifinals will then run from the 28th of April – 4th of June 2023. Finally, the Crossfit Games for 2023 will be held on August 1-6.
How to Compete in the CrossFit Open
First Step: Sign up for the CrossFit Open
Go to games.crossfit.com to register. Log in or sign up, and create your profile.
Second Step: Tune in to the CrossFit Games
Watch the live Open announcements each week on the CrossFit Games YouTube channel on Thursdays at noon (Pacific Time).
Step Three: Get Moving
Complete the weekly workouts with a CrossFit affiliate and be judged by a certified CrossFit Open judge to get your score for each workout.
Step four: Submit your Score
Submit your score through your profile on the Games website by 5:00 p.m. (Pacific Time) on Monday each week to see your name on the global leaderboard.
